Mali II

After creating several jackets from the bogolanfini cloth that I purchased while in Mali I discovered several pieces of mud cloth in my fabric stash as well as several pieces of Korhogo cloth. Each piece was so lovely that I decided to combine these fabric "shards" and create a sleeved jacket.

I was able to create new designs by combining the geometric patterns of the mud cloth in new ways. With the lining of the jacket I used two "stamped" pieces of bogolonfini and combined these pieces with a resist-dyed shibori lining. In creating the lining I mimicked the mud-cloth dyeing techniques in that I used black and taupe dyes to outline the white areas of pattern.
