African Sunset

African Sunset is also a knitted jacket, but the technique used for this jacket is called "free form". With "free form" knitting the knitter can use unlimited varieties of yarns -- textured and smooth, thick and thin, cotton and wool.

While traveling on a camping trip throughout East Africa I was overwhelmed by vivid and dramatic sunsets -- reds, yellows, pinks would dissolve into the blue and inky blackness of the night. The colors used in this jacket were inspired by the drama of these sunsets -- the textured yarns represent the grasses and trees that would be silhouetted against the evening sky. I hope this jacket conveys some of the awe I felt while sitting in front of my tent watching the colors of the waning day.
