Thanks for visiting the educational section of our web site. There isn't very much here right now, but it is really the section we think (hope...) has the best potential to grow. We'll be adding more ideas for activities, lesson plans, and games for introducing African fiber arts and designs to the classroom. And it would be great to receive contributions; admittedly without them the wealth of ideas here will be limited. So if you have ideas to contribute, please tell us about them and they'll be posted here - or we can add a link to them. Also, if your class produces any work based on activities described on this page and would like to show off to the world, then send us some photos and we'll be glad to scan them and post them here.

So, anyway, what is here:

Lesson Plan:

Cotton Spinning.

Lesson Plan:

Weaving.

Build small triangular looms, like those used by African children. Few materials necessary, the results are great.

Invite a weaver to your school.

Bring traditional African craft right into your classroom. A unique cultural exchange program allows you to have a West African strip-cloth weaver in your school for an entire day or longer.
