Amidou Coulibaly
Born into a family of traditional weavers of Jula (Malinke) strip weaving, Amidou Coulibaly began assisting his father at age 6 and was a master weaver by age 23. He has been teaching and demonstrating traditional Malinke weaving since 1982 in Switzerland and the US, including 40 public schools in the Washington, DC area. He has been active in reviving old weaving patterns and dyeing techniques. He is the president of the UGAN cooperative, which is composed of 600 members.
