Here is the completed door that Mamadou carved as a gift for his Peace Corps Volunteer friend, Shawn Davis, with whom he worked on various artisan promotion projects. The door served as the courtyard gate to Shawn's house for the two years that he lived in Mamadou's village and has now found a place in his apartment in Washington, D.C. "It is the best souvenir I could ever have of my time spent in Dogon Country. Not only did my best friend make it for me, but it bears the touch of every person I knew there who pushed it open to come into my house."
